Special election today in New Paltz
A reminder that there’s an election today for the final year in the term of a village of New Paltz trustee seat.
The polls are open from noon until 9:00 p.m. at the firehouse on Plattekill.
Three candidates are going for the seat: Peter Healey, Sarah Kremer, and Jeff Fonda.
Healey is a local activist whose principal issue is the unification of the village and town governments (which we oppose, vigorously).
Kremer is a SUNY New Paltz student who mayor Terry Dungan supports.
Fonda is also a SUNY New Paltz student who is running because he doesn’t like Kremer.
We’ve chosen to support the mayor by supporting Kremer, though we think Healey is a good guy, albeit with an unfortunate Green Party problem. Fonda is also a bright guy, who might have a future in village politics, but doesn’t have much support right now. We like him for standing up against the totalitarian “Residence Life” regime on campus.
