It’s when you have insufficient desire to say what needs to be said about something. Then you just find someone who is saying it for you and quote him.
George Neumayr on Sonia Sotomayor:
On her “journey” Sotomayor has insisted that she is still Sonia from the block — that she hopes “a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”
But where did she learn that corrupt notion? Not in the Bronx of her youth, but at Princeton and Yale after it. She had to enter into the corruption of those largely white liberal enclaves before saying something that unfair and stupid.
Of course, that last sentence. She learned it from the predecessors of today’s cult of gym-teacher/scholars of the new social hygiene. You know, “whiteness” is all-bad. And “of color” is all-good. Diversity itself demands it. It’s borderline personality disorder as normative outlook for the big crayon clique who think pure elite thoughts.
And recall that Barack Obama himself was prepped at the largely white liberal enclaves of Columbia and Harvard before he was ready for his twenty years of immersion in James Cone’s black liberation theology with Reverend Wright. Then, with brief stopovers in the Illinois legislature and the U.S. Senate, it was on to the White House, where he sends another product of the Ivy League identity politics assembly line directly to the Supreme Court. (Remember, people of color who “don’t get it” don’t get it. They’ve got to be on the bus. Otherwise they too are all-bad, meaning they “act white.”)
And to paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld: I’m not offended as a white person, I’m offended as an American.
