Now that really is the end of an era

Robert Morgenthau won’t seek re-election as Manhattan district attorney.

He has had that job since 1975, longer than most 33-year-olds have been alive. Morgenthau is himself 89, which means that he began the job at roughly the age most people begin contemplating retirement.

When he became Manhattan DA, Gerald Ford was President and Reggie Jackson hadn’t yet become a New York Yankee.
